During a chance trip to the UK, an introduction to the acquisitions editor of Laurence King brought fruitful results in two multi-year contracts back-to-back. Off the back of two illustrating two competitor books for Prentice Hall (Ohio) and Condé Nast (NYC), there was a need for an illustrator who could understand sewing construction for two very different but highly technical publications. The first was developed with author Pamela Powell. This book would cover lingerie construction. The second publication would cover the highly technical area of couture tailoring and work with the highly talented Claire Shaeffer
I hold a master's in tailoring and fashion design with an emphasis on fur construction and men's wear. I have been awarded a scholarship by the North American Fur Council and awarded the MiFur award in Milan for design. The sewing process is very clear to me as well as book production and illustration. These would be my third and fourth books and it was also the second time I have worked with both authors
Both books fall into a format that is very comfortable from the illustration point of view — black/white line art with a spot color background. With the drawing of 900 illustrations, Couture Tailoring had the additional requirement of a two-week, on-site photoshoot to capture a museum's garment collection in Southern California. The photographer was unfamiliar with capturing this level of work or detail. I was aware of the details and considerations for each garment so we were able to stay on budget and on time
Lingerie Design — a Complete Course is an extensive book and aimed at the advanced, college student. This book moved incredibly fast including rendering 900 illustrations. The illustration content builds step-by-step through the construction process of a variety of garments. Each step is sequential with detail views (or inset illustrations) covering the nuances of construction execution
Lingerie Design became a very big seller in the niche market and has been published in seven languages. Laurence King was very happy to have T-Go on board. Couture Tailoring is selling briskly in pre-sales with a release date is January 8th, 2021 but it is already making the bestseller list for Laurence King. It will also be published in 7 languages
