Tailored Fashion Design was the first book for author Pamela Powell. She had worked in the couture industry for Vivienne Westwood and was a Savile Row trained tailor. She wanted to develop a textbook that could be used in college classrooms as well as for the home sewer in the US. The project would require 900 illustrations.
The process was a little bit of a learning curve for both the author and myself. Building a textbook from scratch required extensive planning. It helped us both the author and illustrator to have extensive knowledge on the subject. Because of my background in fashion design, asking questions regarding the text or illustration requirements made the process move at a brisk pace.
The author was extremely easy to work with and was able to point to references that we both had in our own personal libraries. Condé Nast was a wonderful client and based in NYC with the author living in Chicago
Tailored Fashion Design is a good looking book as was picked for use in programs by many universities. Reviewers adored the content. The author went to a different publisher for her next title... and she took the illustrator (me) with her. That started a two-book deal with the next publisher Laurence King of London.
